Ubuntu 16.10: disponibile la versione stabile dello Yak chiacchierone.

Ubuntu non si rivoluziona con Yakkety Yak, ma piuttosto si rifinisce e non solo dietro le quinte. Infatti il team di sviluppo si è concentrato molto nell’ottimizzazione di Unity, nella versione 7.5, e di Compiz; il tutto si dovrebbe tradurre in un’esperienza più fluida e stabile.

Sempre in termini di UI anche Nautilus, il file manager che arriva alla versione 3.20, è stato migliorato con, ad esempio, un widget per il trasferimento dei file e un comodo pop-up per rinominare i file.

In verità su Yakkety Yak c’è anche Unity 8.0, ma ancora in developer preview e non pronto ad un utilizzo quotidiano intensivo. A chi invece lavora su Ubuntu con una macchina non troppo potente o tramite virtualizzazione farà piacere il Low Graphics Mode, che sacrifica animazioni ed effetti grafici per rimanere più snello.

Completano il tutto aggiornamenti delle app integrate (LibreOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird…), incluso Ubuntu Software che promette installazioni più rapide, e l’integrazione del kernel Linux 4.8.
